Konev Icon
of the
Mother of God
of the
Dove

The Venerable Arsenius, Wonder-worker of Konev, brought the Icon from Mt Athos in 1393 to Russia. One of the abbots of an Athonite monastery conferred the precious shrine upon the Venerable Arsenius as a blessing to him. He predicted that St Arsenius would establish a monastery.

When the Venerable Arsenius reached Konev Island on Lake Ladoga, he turned in prayer to the Lord that He direct him to the place where the Monastery should be established. Divine Providence led the Venerable Arsenius to the spot where eventually the Konev Monastery was built. Here the Venerable Arsenius constructed a cell for himself and soon built the temple which he dedicated to the feast of the Most Holy Theotokos Nativity.

Almost immediately monks flocked to the Konevitsa cloister. Fame concerning the miracles wrought by the Icon became widespread, including those that happened when the Icon was brought to the Island.

The feastday of the Konev Mother of God Icon is 10 July.
